The form amongst is also used, but is more literary. 亦使用amongst，但文学性更强。

1. among主要用于三者或三者以上，其宾语通常是表示笼统数量或具有复数意义的名词或代词。
2. among有时相当于one of， 即“…当中的一个”。among还可引出形容词最高级的比较范围，但须注意最高级形式出现在among之前或之后意义有所不同。

1. among的用法比amongsta普遍。元音前，多用amongst（很少在美国使用）， 如amongst us；
2. among与between的比较：among用在三个或三个以上的人或物前，between是用在两者之间, 与and搭配，如between he and me，但不与among搭配，不能说among A， B and C。表示在某些物体的两边之间时，不管物体的数量多少，用between。divide或share一些东西的时候，单数名词用divide between和share between，而复数名词用between或among都可。

这两个介词均可表示“在…之中”。其区别在于:

1.among只接复数名词、表人集体名词、复数意义的代词；而amid除此之外还可接单数名词和不可数名词。

2.among表同质关系；而amid表异质关系。例如：

她被发现置身于死人之间。

She was found among the dead. (她是死人)

She was found amid the dead. (她是活人)

3.among表示一事物游离于一个整体之外，易于分辨出来；而amid表示一事物融入一个整体之中，不易分辨出来。

4.among往往用于好的、有利的情况；而 amid 往往用于不好的、不利的情况。

among, amongst

amongst是among的变体形式,除了特别考虑语音因素之外,在现代英语中已较少使用,尤其在美国不用amongst,一般说来,凡是用amongst的场合均可用among替代。

among, between

这两个介词都可表示“在…之间”。其区别在于:among一般表示在三个或三个以上的人或事物之间,这些人或事物往往构成一个集合体; 而between一般表示在两个人或事物之间, between用来指在三者或三者以上的人或事物之间时,往往强调一方与其他诸方各自之间的关系。

among指三者或三者以上的同类事物之间。

between多指两者之间，但现代英语中也可指三者或三者以上，表示彼此间清楚的独立的个体关系。

amid正式用词，侧重指在某个地方的中间或被某个东西包围着或在非同类人中间。

amongst与among同义，是among的变体。一般说来among总能替代amongst,而amongst则不然。
